1. What is the minimum age permitted to rent a car from Economy?
The minimum age of the renter or one of his additional drivers must be 21. Clients from the age of 18-20 may rent with Economy through our Double Deductible Program. Drivers over the age of 21 may rent. For an additional surcharge Economy can raise the insurance deductible in order for younger drivers to be able to rent. This same policy is also used if any additional drivers are under the age of 21.
2. What is the amount of the deposit required on my credit card?
The amount held on your credit card is the sum of the deductible of the car you selected plus the total amount of your reservation. This amount is frozen on your credit card only until you have arrived at one of our offices. Economy does not charge your credit card until the car is returned to us at the end of your rental.
3. Can I leave a cash deposit?
Sorry, no cash deposits are allowed. Economy Rent a Car accepts only Visa, America Express and Master Card.
4. Can I use someone else’s credit card for the deposit?
Sorry, no one other than the person named on the credit card may use that credit card for the deposit. The owner of the credit card must be present at the time of rental.
5. What are your office hours?
Economy Rent a Car’s: San Jose main office is open from 7:00a.m. till 10:00p.m. for rentals and from 8:00a.m. ‘till 6:00p.m. for administrative personnel. Juan Santa Maria San Jose (SJO) Airport Office is open from 5:00a.m. ‘till 2:00a.m. We do wait for delayed flights! Liberia Office servicing Liberia International Airport is open from 6:00 a.m. ‘till 8:00p.m. We do wait for delayed or later flights! Jaco, Quepos, Flamingo and Tamarindo office’s standard hours are between 8:00a.m. and 6:00p.m.
6. How do I get to Economy Rent a Car from San Jose or Liberia International Airport?
Economy Rent a Car is located inside the main terminal of Juan Santa Maria SJO airport! After passing through customs baggage check you will find our representative at our booth waiting to help you with your luggage and escort you out of the airport to our shuttle van. The shuttle van will take you to our off airport pick-up/return office less than 1 km away. At the Liberia office please look for the Economy shuttle van after exiting the airport. The shuttle van will take you to our off airport pick-up/return office located 2km from LIB Int. Airport
7. Can the car leave the country?
A- Sorry, no car can be taken outside the boundaries of Costa Rica.
8. Is there an additional charge if I would like to pick up the car at one location and return the car at a different location?
Yes, there is an additional charge for dropping off the vehicle at a different office. The drop off charge varies depending on which offices you are taking the car to and from and is explained below.
9. Will Economy Rent a Car pick me up for free?
Yes, Economy will pick up and drop off our clients free of charge as long as they are within the limits of one of our offices. This includes the San Jose metropolitan area, Alajuela, Liberia, Jaco, Tamarindo, Flamingo and Manuel Antonio, Quepos. Please put the exact location on the comments box of your reservation. Any customers requiring pick-up and/or drop-off services outside these areas may call or e-mail us for assistance
10. Are there any special tips for traveling to Costa Rica?
What to do before traveling.

Photocopy Passport.

In Costa Rica foreigners must travel with their passport or a copy of their passport on hand. Authorities such as transit official and immigration may require seeing these documents in routine traffic stops. If you don’t have time to make a photocopy before arriving, ask the Economy rent a car agent to make a copy for you.

At the airport.

  1. When you arrive know this, the bank inside the airport will be the best place to change currency in Costa Rica. Although most places accept US denominations, it is always a good idea to carry local currency.
  2. Before exiting the terminal look for the Economy rent a car agent located directly in front of customs

Economy rent a car accepts all valid drivers license’s from countries all over the world. Please make sure your licence is not expired..

At the rental agency.

  1. Be sure that your entire luggage is with you after exiting the shuttle bus.
  2. The most important step here is to look over your vehicle with caution. Point out any damages you see, paying special attention to the windshield, spare tire and tools to change a flat tire. If you do not feel comfortable with that particular vehicle just inform the agent and they will be happy to change it for another similar vehicle.
  3. Make sure you get good directions before heading out of Economy rent a car. The Economy agents have maps available and can give you directions.

While on the road.

  1. Again before heading out make sure to have good directions.
  2. Try not to travel long distances at night.
  3. Try not to leave your luggage in the vehicle while traveling, instead leave what you can at your hotel.
11. What is CREDIT CARD AUTO RENTAL CDW BENEFITS?
When certain terms and conditions are met, the Credit Card Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver benefit ("Auto Rental CDW") provides—at no additional charge—reimbursement for damage due to collision or theft up to the actual cash value of most rental vehicles. Benefit at a glance.
  • Collision and theft coverage.
  • To activate coverage—complete the rental transaction with your covered Credit Card and decline the collision damage waiver (CDW) coverage offered by the rental company.
12. What do I do if I have an accident or the rental vehicle is stolen?
Immediately call the Benefit Administrator to report the theft or damage regardless of whether your liability has been established at:
  • Visa: 1-800-VISA-911 If you are outside the United States, call collect (410) 581-9994 but no later than forty-five (45) days following the date of the theft or damage or Visa will not be able to honor your claim.
  • Master Card: 1-800-MC-ASSIST to get a claim form. If you are outside the United States, call collect (636) 722-7111 You must report any claim within Thirty (30) days of the incident or Mater Card will not be able to honor your claim.
  • American Express: 1-800-338-1670 If you are outside the United States, call collect (440) 914-2950 but no later than forty-five (45) days following the date of the theft or damage or American Express will not be able to honor your claim.
  • The Benefit Administrator will answer any questions you or the rental agency may have and will then send you a claim form. All incidents must be reported immediately following the theft or damage. We therefore advise you to notify us immediately after any loss. You must make every reasonable effort to protect the rental vehicle from damage or theft.
13. What types of rental vehicles are not covered?
Excluded worldwide are: certain vans; vehicles that have an open cargo bed; trucks. This benefit is provided for only those vans manufactured and designed to transport a maximum of eight (8) people and which is used exclusively to transport people.
14. What do I need from the auto rental company in order to file a Credit Card Auto Rental CDW claim?
You have ninety (90) days to send the following information. You can contact Economy rent a car claims department at 1-877-326-7368 to provide you with the following documents:
  • A copy of the Accident Report, which should indicate the costs you are responsible for and any amounts that have been paid toward the claim.
  • A copy of the initial and final auto rental agreement(s) front and back.
  • A copy of the repair estimate or itemized repair bill, if available.
  • Two (2) photographs of the damaged vehicle, if available.
  • A police report, if obtainable.
  • Your credit card sales receipt.
15. How do I file a claim?
You, the cardholder, are responsible for reporting your claim to the Benefit Administrator immediately, but in no event later than forty-five (45) days (thirty days for Master Card) from the date of theft or damage, or your claim will be denied. Notice to any other party will not suffice. For faster filing, submit your claim online. It’s easy, convenient, and available at no extra cost to eligible cardholders. To submit your claim and learn more about Visa Auto Rental CDW go to the Visa Auto Rental CDW Claim Center at www.visa.com/eclaims. To submit your claim and learn more about AMEX Auto Rental CDW go to the AMEX card benefits at https://www124.americanexpress.com/cards/benefits/carrentalinsurance.jsp If you experience difficulty in obtaining all the required documents within ninety (90) days* of the date of theft or damage, just submit the claim form and any documentation you already have available. NOTE: All remaining documents must be postmarked within 365 days of the date of theft or damage.
