Important Information when Visiting Mexico

  • In Mexico, it is common to run into “topes” or speed bumps on the road, especially in urban areas and near schools. These are obstacles designed to reduce the speed of the vehicles. Pay attention to the warning signs and lower the speed gradually when approaching them.
  • Pedestrians and cyclists have the right of way at crosswalks and bike lanes. Pay attention to your surroundings and yield when necessary. Maintain a safe distance when passing cyclists on the road and respecting them as vulnerable users of the street.
  • Respect red and green traffic lights, stopping completely at the mandatory stops. In addition, pay attention to road signage and follow the instructions of exclusive lanes and U-turns, and speed limits.
  • When driving on mountain or curvy roads, reduce your speed and keep necessary precautions. In addition, when facing steep hills, select the adequate gear change.
  • Use lowlights during the night and when driving with conditions of little visibility, such as inside a tunnel. You must also turn on the blinkers when making maneuvers to overtake or stop temporarily.
  • When returning the vehicle, the car must be returned with the same amount of gasoline it had when you picked it up.
  • It is very important to know the places you are going to visit. Know the most favorable routes depending on the type of vehicle you’ve rented, so that you can arrive at your destination more quickly using alternate routes.
