Important Information when Visiting Morocco

  • In Morocco you drive on the right side of the road.
  • In the cities, finding parking can be complicated. Find designated areas to park and avoid blocking streets or areas where it isn't allowed.
  • The traffic signals in Morocco's streets are in Arabic, and sometimes French, but they are perfectly comprehensible even if you are unfamiliar with these languages.
  • Always respect speed limits and other traffic signals. The speed limits are in kilometers per hour, usually 60 km/h in cities and 100km/h on main highways.
  • In cities it is common to see pedestrians crossing the street in different places. Pay special attention to pedestrian crossings and be prepared to brake at any time.
  • In rural areas, it is possible to encounter animals that are lose on the road, such as goats, sheep, and camels.
  • Moroccan drivers can have a unique driving style. Be patient and flexible, and keep calm in chaotic traffic situations.
  • The use of light signals in Morocco can be different to those you are used to. Often, drivers use lights to communicate among themselves, such as warning about the presence of the police or checkpoints.
  • Make sure to have local cash or an accepted credit card to pay the tolls.
  • Police checkpoints: It is highly probable that you'll run into police checkpoints on the road. Respect the officer's instructions and provide all the documentation they ask for.
  • The minimum age to rent a car is 21 years old and the maximum age is 75.
  • You can request an additional driver, one or more, to share the driving duties, for an additional $15.
  • Make sure to rent a vehicle that adapts to your needs. If you are going to explore destinations with difficult access, un-paved or steep roads, we recommend renting an SUV.
  • If you wish to spend less on fuel, ideally you should rent a sedan.
  • When returning the car, it must be returned with the same amount of gasoline as it had when it was picked up.
  • A protection plan called Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) is required for all vehicles when renting a vehicle in Morocco.
  • Plan your trip and check addresses on a GPS before starting your trip. Having an approximate idea of where you are headed will make driving much easier.
  • Valid Driver's License - We will require a driver's license from your country of origin to drive in Australia, along with your passport.
  • Payment Method - We will require a credit card (with the main driver's name) to pay the rental. We accept cash payments in Moroccan dirham, USD or euros.
  • You will need a credit card (with the main driver's name)to make a rental deposit. The deposits vary according to the protection plan and vehicle you pick. This deposit is reimbursed when you return the car, as long as the car is in the same condition as it was when it left the office, and it could take several days or even a week to process.

The souks (markets) are full of alleyway labyrinths, and the medinas (ancient cities) have traditional white and blue houses in Chefchaouen and, terracotta-colored ones in Marrakesh and Fez. In addition, impressive palaces and mosques offer architecture with Arabic and Berber influences that are not found in other places.
