Important Information when Landing in Quepos (XQP)

  • The Costanera Sur (Route 34) leading into Quepos can be busy with tour buses and trucks, especially near the entrance to Manuel Antonio National Park.
  • Quepos' town roads are narrow and one-way in places — watch for signage near the central market.
  • Traffic backs up near the Manuel Antonio park entrance during peak morning hours (the park opens early).
  • Watch for monkeys and other wildlife occasionally crossing roads near the national park.

  • Quepos is the gateway to Manuel Antonio National Park, about 2.5–3 hours from San José via Route 27 and Route 34.
  • All rentals include Costa Rica's mandatory protection plan.
  • A sedan is fine for the main coastal route; an SUV adds flexibility if you're continuing south toward Dominical or Uvita.
  • Ask about toll costs on Route 27 before your drive from the Central Valley.
