Important Information when Visiting Romania

  • Pay special attention to the Romanian traffic signals and instructions. Familiarize yourself with local symbols and regulations to be sure to understand them correctly.
  • You can find slow vehicles, such as tractors or horse-drawn carriages, on rural roads. Be patient and find safe options to advance when needed.
  • If you use toll motorways, be sure to have local currency (Romanian Leu) in cash in order to pay. Some tollbooths also accept credit cards.
  • When you get close to urban and rural areas, be on the lookout for cyclists and pedestrians. Respect their right of way and reduce your speed in areas where there is pedestrian activity.
  • In the cities, parking can be complicated. Find public parking spaces or garages, and avoid parking in places where it isn't allowed so as not to get a ticket.
  • If you plan to drive in mountainous areas, prepare for steep roads and tight curves. Use low gears (compression) to keep control of the vehicle and avoid overheating the brakes.

  • The client must have a valid national or international driver's license that is at least a year old, and present an ID and a valid credit card with his/her name.
