Liability and public liability insurance is required for all rental vehicles. Renters must provide written proof of liability coverage for Puerto Rico issued by a third party or purchase the liability insurance offered by the rental company. The presentation of a credit card or a personal auto insurance policy does not constitute valid proof of coverage. Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI) provides coverage for third-party claims with maximum liability limits of $10,000 for bodily injury and $20,000 for property damage, provided the vehicle is used in accordance with the terms and conditions of the rental agreement. Exclusions apply. The cost of this insurance is $9.95 per day.
The Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) is optional, provided the customer presents written proof of valid coverage for Puerto Rico issued by a third party at the time of rental. If third-party coverage is used, any damage to the vehicle will be charged directly to the renter’s credit card, and the renter must seek reimbursement from their insurance provider. The presentation of a credit card or personal insurance is not accepted as valid proof of coverage. CDW reduces the renter’s financial responsibility for damage to the vehicle, its parts, and accessories, except in cases of theft, attempted theft, or vandalism, as long as the vehicle is used in accordance with the rental agreement. The deductible for this coverage is $500, and the cost is $9.95 per day.
Full Damage Waiver (FDW) provides greater protection, reducing the renter’s financial responsibility for damage to the vehicle, its parts, and accessories to zero, except in cases of theft, attempted theft, or vandalism, under the terms of the rental agreement. This insurance has a zero deductible and costs $27.00 per day.
If the customer chooses to use their personal insurance instead of purchasing coverage offered by the company, the policy presented must provide coverage equal to or greater than the full value of the rented vehicle and must extend to rental vehicles in Puerto Rico. It is the customer’s responsibility to provide valid and current proof of such coverage at the time of pickup. The company reserves the right to verify the validity and scope of the policy.
Due to internal policies and limitations in coverage, the following insurance providers will not be accepted as valid during the rental period: Rental Cover, Travel Guard, Generali Global Assistance, and Guardian Insurance.
