Important Information when Visiting Trinidad and Tobago

  • As in the United Kingdom and in other places, people in Trinidad and Tobago drive on the left side of the road. Be sure to familiarize yourself with this norm before beginning to drive.
  • Roads in Trinidad and Tobago can have potholes and irregularities so, drive with precaution to avoid damaging the vehicle and keep to a reasonable speed limit. In rural areas it is common to encounter animals, such as cows, goats, and dogs, on the street. Reduce your speed in these areas and pay attention to the road to avoid accidents.
  • Pedestrians have the right of way at crosswalks. Pay attention and respect the crosswalks to guarantee the safety of those on foot.
  • During the rainy season, roads can become slippery and dangerous. Reduce your speed and increase the distance between vehicles to avoid collisions.
  • Turn on the headlights of your vehicle at nighttime and when it rains to increase visibility. In addition, use the blinker to turn and change lanes.
  • If you plan to drive in mountainous areas, be ready for steep and winding roads. Use lower gears to keep the vehicle under control and avoid braking in excess on prolonged descents.
  • Drivers must be over 21 years old, in Trinidad and Tobago, in order to be held responsible for a vehicle rental. There is also a fee for drivers under 25 of $11.25 USD a day.
  • All vehicles are rented with a full tank of gas and are expected to be returned in the same way.
  • If you do not want the GT, the client is completely responsible for any damage caused to any part of the automobile.
