  • Pay attention to traffic signals and respect the speed limits. The latter may vary according to the type of street and local conditions.
  • At the crosswalks, pedestrians have the right of way. Respect this norm and reduce your speed near crosswalks and pedestrian areas.
  • Use the headlights of the vehicle during the day in rural areas and when using tunnels. In addition, turn on the lights in conditions of little visibility, like when it rains.
  • In rural areas it is possible to encounter animals on the road. Reduce your speed and keep your attention on the road to avoid accidents.
  • Cyprus has panoramic routes and beautiful views. Enjoy the landscape, but be sure to focus on your driving and find safe places to stop and admire the view.
  • Keep a full tank of gas, especially if you are traveling to rural areas. Distances between service stations may be far between in some regions.
  • Use an updated navigational system or a map app to help you find your way. But keep in mind some rural roads may not be completed mapped out.

  • Valid Driver’s License: You’ll need a driver’s license from your home country to drive in Cyprus, as well as your passport. Temporary driver’s licenses can be rejected and not accepted.
  • You’ll require a credit or debit card (with the main driver’s name) to make a rental deposit. Deposits may vary according to the vehicle and protection plan you choose. This deposit will be released once the car is returned, if the car is in the same condition as when it was picked up at the office, and this could take several days and up to a week to process.
